WHAT DO THEY KNOW? - VINCENT TUCKWOOD People walking together People walking hand in hand Are they loving together What do they know? People laughing together People laughing and joking and jumping and pointing together What do they know? What do they know? Are they laughing and joking at me? What do they know? Are they laughing at me? Pointing at me? Joking at me? A punch and a kick in the gutter I sit here an watch them I sit here and wonder if I could be one or walk among them What do they know? I long to be with them I long to be with them but this doorway is cold about me What do they know? What do they know? Are they laughing and joking at me? What do they know? Are they laughing at me? Pointing at me? Joking at me? A punch and a kick in the gutter A punch and a kick in the gutter Copyright 2014, Vincent Tuckwood

ANYWHERE BUT HERE - VINCENT TUCKWOOD Let's take a walk We'll walk and talk We'll walk, yes we'll walk Anywhere but here Let's take a ride Ride side by side We'll ride, yes we'll ride Anywhere but here Let's see you smile That stupid-ass grin You'll smile, yes you'll smile Anywhere but here Let's take some time Because time can fly You'll fly, yes you'll fly Anywhere but here Seems so dreary, since I got out of bed Makes me feel like, I should just talk to you instead Because it seems to me that we should be in heaven Seems to me everything should change Seems to me that we should be in sunshine Seems to me anywhere but here Copyright 2014, Vincent Tuckwood

CENTRE OF MY WORLD - VINCENT TUCKWOOD Don't ask me how I'm feeling You might get the truth Leave you reeling If you want to know just look at the centre of my world Check my temperature Check the focus of my eyes Check the way that I smile In the centre of my world Hang me on a hook And leave me out to dry But don't ask why If you want the truth just look at the centre of my world If you want to know why Just look in my eyes and watch me fly And watch me smile In the centre of my world Copyright 2014, Vincent Tuckwood

PAINKILLER MORNING - VINCENT TUCKWOOD Painkiller morning My hands ache I'll have to break them open today Can't sign my name Can't stir my coffee Another painkiller day today Painkiller morning My guts ache I'll have to take some pills today Can't keep my food down I've got a headache Another painkiller day today Painkiller morning My hands ache I'll have to break them open today Can't sign my name Can't keep that pen still Another painkiller day today And I can't remember the day When my hands cracked and flaked and peeled And I can't remember the times when the lines on my palm were written And I changed Copyright 2014, Vincent Tuckwood

Hollow 04:33
HOLLOW - VINCENT TUCKWOOD I am these follicles I am turning grey I am this creasing face I am broken down by age I am these aching limbs I am not so slim I am presented before you I am this hollow thing And it seems all this time that you've been running away from the truth of what I am and what you have today If you open your eyes If you open your heart You might see I'm everything you need Everything you need Copyright 2014, Vincent Tuckwood

TEQUILA IN THE C FIELD - VINCENT TUCKWOOD You You are turning inside of me you are laughing and joking Joking and hoping You are one up on me You are winding me up Chilling me down You are grinding me with your teeth You can smile and I'm laughing But it's all too brief You You are churning inside of me You are cutting and slicing Dicing and biting You are puking up on me You are pissing me down Winding me up You are grinding me with your teeth You can smile and I'm retching But it's all too brief I can't focus Your words are turning me green The trees are grinning at me Bending over Laughing Copyright 2014, Vincent Tuckwood

SHEEP (ONE OF THOSE DAYS) - VINCENT TUCKWOOD They're telling you what to do They're telling you what to day They're telling you not to do thing your own way They're telling you where to go They're telling you who to know They're telling you not to be such a so and so They're telling you what to think They're telling you what to eat and drink They're telling you not to kick up such a stink They're telling you where to go They're telling you who to know They're telling you not to be such a so and so They're telling you what to say They're telling you what songs to play They're telling you not to sing them your own way Have you ever had one of those days The smile seems nailed to your face And everything aches with the effort it takes Have you ever had one of those times You feel like you're learning your lines Time after time you tell them you're fine Don't be a sheep Ba-ba-baaaaaa! OVER THE MOON, BRIAN - VINCENT TUCKWOOD Did you really think I would walk away? That is not a game I'd play, not me Did you think? Did you really think I would trip you up? I would steal all your good luck from you Did you really feel that weak? Really feel that weak? Did you really think I would knock you out? You might stumble, I might shout at you Did you think? Did you really think I would knock you down? Kick you senseless to the ground, not me Did you really feel that weak? Really feel that weak? I'm waiting for you You to call me out I'm strong for we two You just have to shout Because you send me over the moon Every time I turn around You send me over the moon Copyright 2014, Vincent Tuckwood

SIDEWAYS STEP - VINCENT TUCKWOOD Oh no, here we go again Accusation followed by counter-accusation We're running around A caucus race Neither of us getting closer to a winning tape Oh no, here we go again I'm trying to explain yet finding the words so hard You look in my words Reach out to take the things you need to fire right back in my face Why do we shout? Why is it we scream? When all the time there is space between Between us Just take a sideways step Look at the place you've left Does it look different? Or is the line of your thought always one step behind you? Not one more word will I say Until you prove that you're listening to me Not one more time will I try to open your eyes Force you to see You should take a sideways step Look at the place you've left Does it look different? Or is the line of your thought always one step behind you? Copyright 2014, Vincent Tuckwood

WALKING IN CIRCLES - VINCENT TUCKWOOD Round and around and around and around And never finding each other Up and down and up and down And never passing each other In and out and in and out And never touching each other Walking in circles We're never finding each other Walking in triangles We've come to this point Walking in squares We're backed into this corner Walking in circles Around and around and around Round and around and around and around And always getting dizzy Up and down and up and down And I feel like falling In and out and in and out And I'm claustrophobic Walking in circles We're never finding each other Walking in triangles We've come to this point Walking in squares We're backed into this corner Walking in circles Around and around and around Copyright 2014, Vincent Tuckwood

about

From 1995-97, Scott Haughie, Matt Haines and I played my songs live as Grope. Though we recorded a 3-song EP, the majority of our set was never captured. As with all things, time moved on and Grope evolved into a different band.

Fast forward...

Late December 2013, playing my 90s Strat, and the Grope songs begin to tumble from my fingers; like this guitar is possessing me, like this guitar is haunted.

I look up and see, as if for the first time, the Grope set-list framed on my studio wall.

Within days I'm recording these long-ago songs. I know them well, yet find them changed after nearly two decades of playing; I hear my younger musical self, knowing his journey in song was only just beginning.

So, with love and thanks to Scott, Matt and my Stratocaster, I offer these songs of then and now, in celebration of the journey.
